Seven Atlantic under construction

July 2008 – The 'Seven Atlantic' ship is currently under construction. De Boer Staal supplied 950 tons of steel plate and Holland profiles (Grade A ship quality) for this 'Diving Support / Offshore Construction Vessel'. This project has now been completed as far as De Boer Staal is concerned, but the shipyard and the shipping company still have a lot of work to do.

The 'Seven Atlantic' is being built at the Merwede Shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Ships are built in sections. De Boer Staal supplies the steel plates and Holland profiles for each section so that the shipyard can process the plates and profiles by section, too. Then it's time to install the cable ducts, pipelines etc. and to get the furnishings and fittings into the section as far as possible. This is a practical decision: at this stage, it's still easy to reach everything. Once the section has been finished, it is transferred from the hall to the slipway and welded to the ship. In that way, the ship is built section by section and gradually takes shape.Launch and deliveryThe launch is planned for 18 July 2008. Then the ship is fitted out and a sea trial takes place. Delivery of the ship is scheduled for the first six months of 2009. The vessel is 145 metres long and 26 metres wide, and it can accommodate a crew of 150. The owner, Subsea 7, will be using the ship for diving work in the North Sea.
